A Bit About Me

I fell into nonprofit leadership in 2007 when I was invited to join the board of directors for a small, charitable organization I had joined as a volunteer the previous year. By that Fall, I was Board President. As is the case for many “accidental” leaders, I stepped up to lead the organization when it became clear that “someone had to do it!”

With only an administrative staff person, as Board President, I quickly found myself called upon to, not only lead the board of directors, but to lead and manage the entire organization itself! It was a daunting task and I often felt way in over my head. Fortunately, in addition to a management background to draw upon, the timing could not have been better. I was in college at the time, having returned there at the age of 36. As a college student, I had scheduling flexibility that would not have been available to me otherwise.

As it turns out, I not only had a passion for the organization, but for the nonprofit world as a whole! I was fortunate enough to be able to focus my education on the nonprofit sector, gaining my Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a Specialization in Nonprofit Management in 2016. In 2017, I became the first “official” executive director for the organization I had been leading since 2007, a position that I still hold.

Over the past decade, I have advised many grassroots efforts, served on advisory boards, and provided foundational trainings to small and emerging nonprofit organizations.

With my degree and over ten years in the trenches of front-line nonprofit governance and management, I want my wealth of knowledge and experience to benefit those doing this work and building community.
